Current vacancy: Library and Administrative Assistant

The RSAI wishes to recruit a part-time Library and Administrative Assistant to join their team. The purpose of this role is to manage the Society’s library and collections and to assist the Executive Officer in the day-to-day running of the Society.

 

Background:

Established in 1849, the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland (RSAI) is the oldest historical society in Ireland. Based in a Georgian townhouse in Merrion Square, the Society manages a significant collection of library and archive holdings. In addition, it runs an annual programme of lectures, talks, outings and excursions and publishes an annual journal. In recent years it has begun to make its premises available as a venue for cultural and commercial events.

Role

The Library and Administrative Assistant will work under the management of the Executive Officer, Officers and Library Committee. Key responsibilities will include:

  1. Management of the library, in line with the Society’s priorities and aims. This will include day to day collections and provision of reader services; the continuing development of new OPAC; cataloguing; oversight of digitisation projects; dealing with rights and reproductions and promotion of the Society’s collections.
  2. Provision of administrative support for membership- and volunteer-related tasks. This will include work relating to excursions, subscriptions and programmed events, together with occasional support for one-off, out-of-hours events held in Society House.
  3. Accommodating and facilitating cultural and commercial events in Society House, including some out of office hours work.

Competencies:

The general competencies required to fulfil the role include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Recognised qualification in Information and Library studies or three years experience in a library environment.
  • Customer relationship and management skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to plan, manage and see projects to completion
  • Familiarity with basic word processing and image management software
  • Knowledge and experience of working with internationally accepted cataloguing standards.

Terms

The post will entail 14 hours per week on an initial one year contract, with potential for a renewal at the end of that period.

Renumeration

The salary is €21,130 pro rata, 0.4 time (two days per week).
